JDM Wheels on a Golf MK4 R32? Yes Please!

At Risenation Hall of Fame, my first event of the season, one thing stood out. Not some over-the-top wrap or an exhaust loud enough to trigger seismic activity, but something more subtle—and possibly more controversial. European cars rocking wheels usually reserved for Japanese legends. The biggest head-turner? This Volkswagen Golf R32, built by Alex Fuller. If I had to put together a top five from the event, this would be in it. No question.

The base car is a Mk4 Golf R32, an icon in its own right, but Alex has taken it to another level. The body has been resprayed in its original OEM Deep Blue Pearl, a color that still looks as timeless as ever. Visually, everything else appears to be standard R32—until you get to the wheels. And this is where things get interesting.

Rather than playing it safe with a matching set, Alex went for a bold mix. At the rear, you’ll find Work Wheels VS KF in 18×10.5J, while up front sits a set of Blitz 03s in 18x9J. I wouldn’t be surprised if both sets combined are worth more than the car itself. The polished chrome finish contrasts beautifully with the deep blue paint. The combination works flawless giving the car a stance that demands attention.

Speaking of stance, there’s no half-measures here. The Golf sits on an Airlift Slam Series air suspension setup with Performance Bags up front. What’s truly impressive? The wheel arches remain untouched, yet the car drops so perfectly onto the rims that you’d think the arches were made to fit.

Inside, things take an even wilder turn. Quite literally. Alex has completely retrimmed the interior in bright yellow leather with grey Alcantara. And in case you forget what car you’re sitting in, the R32 logo is absolutely everywhere. Maybe a bit overkill, but hey—it’s certainly different!

A VW Golf R32 with JDM wheels, a striking interior, and fitment so precise it hurts—controversial? Definitely. But one thing’s for sure: Alex has created one of the most unique builds at the event. And that, we can all respect.
