Holyhall’s Zakspeed inspired Ford Capri Mk3

In today’s automotive world, project cars are the bread and butter of many YouTube channels. But not all of them are created equal. Because this Zakspeed inspired Ford Capri Mk3 is something special. 3 years ago the team at Holyhall saw potential in an old, rusty red Ford Capri Mk3. Their goal was to transform it into a Zakspeed look-alike race car, reminiscent of those that raced across European circuits in the early ’80s. Thankfully for us, they succeeded in turning that vision into a reality, which I first witnessed live at the Essen Motor Show in 2023.

The foundation of this masterpiece is a Ford Capri Mk3, though only the doors and roof remain original. The rest of the car is built on a custom-made tube frame chassis, constructed not from CAD drawings but from photographs of the original Zakspeed race cars. This achievement alone is remarkable, but the work didn’t stop there.

Attached to the tube frame chassis is a custom suspension. Through the rear window, you can catch a glimpse of the pushrod rear suspension, featuring components from H&R Suspension. H&R provided a bespoke set specifically for this car, with spring rates and shock absorber characteristics individually matched to the new vehicle weight of 1300 kg.

The Levella Mercedes Benz 190e x C32 AMG

The Mercedes Benz 190e 2.5-16V EVO 2. They seem to pop up quite frequently, but you won’t find one for less than $250,000, at least according to Bring a Trailer. The latest auction on there was on March 13th, and the highest bid reached a whopping $370,000, which still wasn’t enough for the seller.

Now, onto this particular specimen from Levella, a wheel manufacturer in Germany. With the increasing demand for the Mercedes Benz 190e 2.5-16V EVO 2, it’s no surprise that replicas are hitting the market. You can now even buy a full EVO 2 body kit for your standard 190e. I’m not sure if that’s the case here, but what I do know is that you won’t find the 4-cylinder 2.5-16V engine under the hood. Instead, there’s a 3.2-liter V6 sourced from a much newer C32 AMG.

LB-Super Silhouette RX-7 at Essen Motor Show

One of the greatest designs from the madlab that is Liberty Walk. Making a Rx7 look like a JGTC car is no small feat especially on a road car. But this kit just flows so well with the original body lines. A special mention needs to go to the livery designers at Blackfish Graphics, they nailed the design.

More on this car in a later post.

Porsche RWB “Kimera” at the Essen Motor Show

Do you remember seeing your first RWB kitted Porsche? I do, it was the Porsche Stella Artois named after Nakai-Sans favorite beer. In my blogging days even before we started the Speedhunters project in 2008 there was a blog called Auto Otaku run by Mike Garrett. He was the man in Japan who showed us the car culture first hand. He had access to a scene we could only dream of. Mike showed us the RWB cars while they raced on Tsukuba during the numerous Idlers events. And one of those cars was Nakai-san’s personal 1985 Porsche 930.

The RWB Stella Artois was painted Matte Black with gold SSR Professors and gold accents. To me the perfect combo that accentuates the widebody even more and giving it somewhat of an outlaw look.
